I watched the UCONN and ND game last night, or should I say exhibition game, I watched Tina Charles pass Rebecca Lobo for UCONN career leading rebounder and the saw her become UCONN’s career scoring leader, what a player and to think MS. Moore will pass Charles in scoring next year.
Now to the team, it is just amazing to watch how they flow together, somehow Geno picked a bunch of girls who just complement each other so well… it seems like they have played with each other for YEARS and that they hold sooo much respect for each other. It was funny to hear Geno say that the team hasn’t been playing well lately, but he was proud of how they played last night… well, I hope so, cause they were flawless.
Can't wait till I can say all the above about the GAMECOCKS |

| He has does a wonderful job both in choosing players and in melding them into a unit. And to think that his top signee from a couple of years ago isn't even playing for the team. Does Staley have the coaching talent of Auriemma? Not many do. I guess only time will tell. Could be he and pat for the national title again. |

so sorry to hear UConn isn't playing well--of course, Geno is a master of innuendo/sarcasm/you name it
He is amazingly good at what he does--still, I just can't warm up to him or pull for his team (though I like some of his players a lot)
Would love to see him and Pat go for the national championship, except that it's doubtful that UT (our SEC representative, remember) is up to the challenge, this particular year
Still, at least UConn has got to play the games, tho they've already been anointed the champions by popular acclaim (which is probably accurate, at least this year) |

The funniest thing I heard watching the UCONN dismantling of FL ST was, UCONN needs to play a WNBA team. Makes me wonder, what would UCONN's record be if they had to play in the WNBA.
For charity, Geno and some WNBA team should schedule a game against each other and all proceeds to the the Haiti or something |

I think they'd beat about half the WNBA teams, especially if they didn't have to go to the bench too much.
Geno has great players, but the real accomplishment is how they make a TEAM that is nearly unbeatable. The WNBA is so concerned with each individual on the team and their individual performances that I do think his team approach alone gives them an advantage. It's also why I like watching the college game more; it is team oriented and when it's done right, beautiful. |

It's like Coach Staley said in an on-line chat for ESPN in February when asked if anyone had a chance of knocking off UConn. She said there's a few teams that could; the Boston Celtics, Cleveland Cavs, and LA Lakers.
I'm not a Geno fan, but he's a heck of a coach and recruiter. No one will even come close to beating UConn this season. They will likely break UCLA's record early on next year, but may struggle a little bit without Charles or Greene. Of course, struggling for them will probably be only beating a team by 30 points instead of 60. _________________ Clemson women's basketball is a lot like possums; they play dead at home and get killed on the road. |

Forgot to reply to this a few weeks ago! Obivously it's over and done with and UCONN proved once and for all they were the best. I'm glad. I happen to like Geno. He sets the bar high and expects players to live up to their ability. I want to see him break all of Pat Summit's records - no wonder she won't play him any more!
As for breaking UCLA's record? That's a men's record, so even if UCONN wins more games in a row than UCLA's men back in the day, they are separate and they wouldn't really be breaking UCLA's record. The NCAA doesn't keep records for men and women's basketball combined. I wish people would stop trying to compare the two. I love women's basketball, but it's a different game and there isn't near as much parity in the women's game as there is in the men's game. Why can't a great string or record in the women's game be appreciated for what it is, instead of trying to compare it to men's records.
There. That's off my chest. Now I feel better. |
